| On the 19th September 1890 a company of men
interested in pharmacy and its allied callings met together at the
Mona Hotel, Covent Garden. It was decided at that meeting to apply
for a Warrant for a Lodge to be named the Galen Lodge which was subsequently
granted, and consecrated on 25th March 1891. There were 25 Founder
Members. The first Master was W.Bro.Dr.H.H.Paul (Editor of the Pharmaceutical
Journal). 'Galen' was a physician of the second century whose writings
on drugs remained authoritative in medicine and pharmacy for some
1500 years.
